Alkyds are tough commercial paints used to decorate kitchens, toys, etc. The idea of using them for his art came from Siquieros, the Mexican Muralist, whose work in plastics he had seen in the Modern Museum. These fast-drying, liquid paints enabled the artist to work quickly and to store his work in the cramped quarters of the truck. These works are executed on masonite because the alkyd film is too brittle for the more usual canvas.
